COMMON MISTAKES FOR CUBAN APPLICANTS
TRAVEL HISTORY
Cuban immigrants who entered under the Cuban Adjustment Act have a unique immigration history. Travel to Cuba since becoming a permanent resident may raise questions about abandonment of residency — consult an attorney before traveling.
BACKGROUND AND MORAL CHARACTER
Cuban applicants who entered the U.S. before January 12, 2017 under the 'wet foot, dry foot' policy have a different immigration history than those who entered after. Make sure your N-400 accurately reflects your entry category.
DOCUMENT TRANSLATION
All documents not in English must be accompanied by a certified English translation. The translator must certify in writing that they are competent to translate from Spanish to English and that the translation is accurate. USCIS does not accept machine translations.
ANSWERING EVERY QUESTION
Never leave any question on the N-400 blank. If a question does not apply to you, write "N/A." Blank fields can cause USCIS to request additional information, delaying your case by months.
