COMMON MISTAKES FOR BRAZILIAN APPLICANTS
TRAVEL HISTORY
Brazilian immigrants often travel to Brazil for family visits. Document all travel dates precisely. USCIS will review your passport stamps carefully. Frequent travel to Brazil is acceptable as long as no single trip exceeds 6 months.
BACKGROUND AND MORAL CHARACTER
Brazil has an extradition treaty with the United States. Any criminal history in Brazil or the U.S. must be fully disclosed. USCIS conducts international background checks.
DOCUMENT TRANSLATION
All documents not in English must be accompanied by a certified English translation. The translator must certify in writing that they are competent to translate from Portuguese to English and that the translation is accurate. USCIS does not accept machine translations.
ANSWERING EVERY QUESTION
Never leave any question on the N-400 blank. If a question does not apply to you, write "N/A." Blank fields can cause USCIS to request additional information, delaying your case by months.
